Twisted Records is delighted to announce the release of a deluxe vinyl edition that will thrill fans of classic 1990s four-on-the-floor psychedelic dance music: The Complete Hallucinogen Volume 2: The Singles Remastered.
This 5-LP set gathers together for the first time all of the released Hallucinogen compositions that were not included in the two iconic albums Twisted and The Lone Deranger. Here together are singles from Dragonfly, TIP, Twisted, and other labels, and releases from various compilations – all of Posford’s original productions issued under the Hallucinogen moniker between 1994 and 2006 (including three ambient numbers). Remixes of other producers’ tracks are not included, nor are other artists’ remixes of his classics or collaborative compositions: just pure, unadulterated, undiluted, full-strength Hallucinogen.
From the first mix of Solstice (crafted in 1993 but issued in 1996), which brought tears to the eyes of dancers at early outdoor parties, to the final evocatively-voiced creation Strangled Cat in 2006 (only briefly available online), we can now experience the evolution of the Hallucinogen style in pristine vintage vinyl format.
Hallucinogen tracks were always highly anticipated, as prized by the DJs behind the decks as they were by the party-goers on the dance floor: every dancer hoped to experience a new track at a party, and every DJ wanted to be among the exclusive few with early access to the latest production. When TIP label DJ André was so in awe of the stunning Lysurgeon General remix of Soothsayer in 1996 (he was in the studio while it was being created) that he attempted to coax a copy out of Posford by making him a digital audio tape with the latest top-tier unreleased tracks: the handwritten title on the spine of the box reads “WE’RE NOT WORTHY!”
The sonic language of Hallucinogen evolved alongside improved technology and shifting tastes in production and musical content, from the overtly melodic to streamlined and abstract futuristic creations, yet always retaining an evocative harmonic framework, exploratory storyline, and sense of drive.
All these classic tracks have been freshly mastered by Kevin Metcalfe at Soundmasters and the records cut by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios. The gorgeous gatefold box holding the five 180gm vinyl records features mind-blowing art by Calx, amazing photos of the artist by Japanese photographer Kotaro Manabe, detailed notes by Goa historian Mark Ainley (aka DJ Solitare) and insightful trivia points provided by maestro Posford.
Sales are open from Monday November 18 until 11:59pm Tuseday December 3rd, and the set will not be available for sale after that date. Orders will ship in mid February.
The tracks have been remastered by Kevin Metcalfe at Soundmasters and the vinyl cut by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road. Original Artwork by Mark Neal, with additional artwork by Calx.
